September Featured Photo

09/20/2021 by RT 4 Comments

September’s featured photo was submitted by Oscar Ginz of Guiliford, Connecticut.

“This is our 1948 CO-OP E3 that is within a few serial numbers, and identical to the one, that mechanized maternal grandfathers family farm in May of 1948. It took 7 years to find one that fit the bill and almost 2 years to restore it. The tractor underwent a complete nut and bolt restoration from 2017 to 2019, in honor of the late Gerald M. Sales of Clarissa / St Cloud, Minnesota, bringing in a new era of farming. One of the finest examples of an early E3.”

1959 Case 700B

08/03/2021 by ST 3 Comments

This is a 1959 Case 700B Orchard tractor and one of only 143 700Bs that were built in 1958/1959 It is a combination Case/Pounds orchard tractor. According to the Case-IH archives, this tractor was sent to the Pounds Motor Company in Winter Haven, Florida “less seat and seat channel parts, fenders and platform” although it did have the orchard front axle and steering, and had no hydraulics or eagle hitch.

There the Pounds folks added their own fenders and shields. Mr. Pound converted many tractors to orchard tractors and also worked with the JI Case Company on improvements to the Case orchard tractors. I bought the tractor from a private individual in North Carolina in the fall of 2019 and restored it during the Spring of 2020.

1954 Massey Harris 33

This 1954 Massey Harris 33 tractor was purchased by my best friend’s family and next door neighbor. In the mid 70’s as a little boy, I can remember many times my friend and I went riding on the fender of this tractor while his Dad (Wendell Carlson) did the farming.

Later in the 70’s his Dad purchased a 10-acre hobby farm about 2 miles away from our home. I can still remember the distinct sounds of that old tractor as he passed by our house announcing he was done for the day.

In 2018 we were blessed to purchase the hobby farm, and later in an auction buy that family tractor from my friend’s family.

Massey Harris Lineup

07/11/2021 by ST 1 Comment

My Dad bought one of these Massey Harris 50s new in 1956 and I drove it as a youth. In 1992, I bought one for parts, and then my son overhauled it in Olds Agricultural College in 1995.

I unofficially started collecting them in 2006. All twelve are now in running condition and are used on our farm with various 3-point hitch attachments. Very user-friendly tractors!

1936 Case CC

07/08/2021 by ST Leave a Comment

I restored this 1936 CC Case during the winter of 2014-15 as a high school FFA project. When I purchased the tractor it was mostly complete, but in rough condition: a tree had fallen across the hood, the radiator and head were full of leaves and rodent nests, the rims were rusted through, and almost more of the fenders had rusted away than still remained.

The aspect of this tractor I like most is the fact I was able to find several gallons of new-old-stock J.I. Case “L-C Gray” paint from the 1960s to use on the restoration–you can’t get any more accurate with paint color than this!

1948 Minneapolis Moline U Diesel

1948 Minneapolis Moline U Diesel. I found this tractor sitting in a field while traveling the Canadian countryside. I stopped and approached the owner of the tractor. I have now had it for 11 years. It still runs great and I occasionally use it on the farm.

This 1939 John Deere may not be the original one I (Mata Banks) learned to “drive” as a two year old while sitting on my Grandfather’s lap, but it is a twin. Our grand-daughter continues the tradition and “drives” with her Grandfather, David. She is the 5th generation on our turn of the century East Tennessee Farm.

Our sons, Byron and William,  also learned to drive the “Pow-pow” as kids from my Grandfather, before he passed and now they assist with the farm, thus continuing the legacy left by their fore-fathers.  We have another 1939 John Deere in the barn awaiting rebuilding amid parts…the dream continues as does the legacy of farming represented in the old Model A restorations.

1974 International 1066

07/01/2021 by ST Leave a Comment

This IH 1066 was one of my father’s tractors. He was the 3rd owner. I personally knew the previous two also. The tractor is a 1974 model and my Dad purchased it around 1980.

Dad passed in 2018 and I purchased the tractor at his estate farm auction. I had a restoration done. My son used the tractor for some of his wedding pictures. We are happy to have this tractor stay in the family.

1950 Massey TO-20

06/28/2021 by ST 1 Comment

This 1950 Massey TO-20 was originally purchased new by my grandfather. It was primarily used to haul grapes and almonds, but was used in many different capacities over the years. Several family members got their first taste of driving behind it’s might! It was gifted to me when my grandparents sold their farm to retire. It’s legacy and tradition lives on with my family today.

1935 John Deere A

06/26/2021 by ST 2 Comments

John Deere A

This 1935 A John Deere was purchased by my parents in December of 1934 at Brink Implement in Edgerton, Minnesota. They traded four draft horses in order to complete this purchase.

The tractor came from the factory with four steel wheels. My dad refitted the tractor to rubber tires and new rims one year later. A Behlen 5th and 6th gearbox was added later. This enabled the tractor to have a relatively high road speed for that era.

This tractor has always remained in the Walhof family.

Jenny Bradshaw – 25 Years with STP

06/22/2021 by ST 3 Comments

Jenny received her 25 year anniversary cake and gift on May 20th, 2021. Below is a little story from Jenny about her time with STP.

Hey there. 25 years – WOW! I never planned to be here this long. It’s been one heck of a lifelong position in a company with strong foundations built up by my folks. Reminisce with me for a moment…
I grew up in this business, literally. Dad’s daily warnings of watch out, be careful, those disc blades are sharp (you’ll cut yourself!), that’s oily watch out it’ll get on your clothes, and come over here and help me with this (whatever this could be) still ring through my head daily. When I was a youngin’, I remember standing by Dad’s side while he packed manifolds and I’d fill in the addresses in the UPS ledger book (‘not that way, do it this way’ was a common dad saying pertaining to just about everything); sweeping the barn floor was a common task, as well as answering the phones when I returned home from school as early as Jr high. Ha, I ran across a scrap piece of paper after the company moved to Lennon that was stuck in my belongings with hand written hours in my preteen handwriting for check in and check out times.  Even though I worked elsewhere from age 14 to 19, I already had my folks’ work ethic  ground into my bones. By age 19, I needed full time work that my then landscaping job couldn’t offer during a rainy April, so I filled in for a customer service rep at STP who stopped showing up for work. They needed the position filled, I knew the parts and wanted the work. Ta-Da!

After training with my mom in purchasing and pricing and working with both of my folks in new parts development, I was quite engrained into the business that had started as a position to earn full time hours for the time being. My older brother joined the crew officially 5 years after I did, and we started buying out the inventory from Mom and Dad with the intentions of allowing them to retire. Who at age 25 knows what they’re doing? Yowza! Little did I know how much greater of a company we could build Steiner tractor Parts into…

With the assistance of one hell of a crew of Steiner team members and an amazing worldwide group of loyal customers, I’m proud to say that I am part of one of the coolest companies in the world. Really. There is nowhere you can work that has the benefits, pensions, understanding hard working management team and interesting client base as Steiner Tractor Parts. STP has grown from a busting-at-the-seams mom and pop small company with one employee (co-op student) to a corporation that employs 65, still growing by leaps and bounds. I feel proud to say that I’ve watched my parents’ efforts grow from the 4 stapled catalog pages I’d help put together at our dining room table to the 752 page goliath it is now.

Thank you to all of our customers reading this who have allowed us at Steiner Tractor Parts to continue growing, fueling the next generation of farmers and restorers to keep heritage alive.
Keep on plowin’
