1949 Farmall C

The story of how our 1949 Farmall C joined our family started in 1967 when my parents decided to move from Brooklyn, New York to Upstate New York. My parents wanted a better life for my three brothers and I so we settled in the Mohawk Valley region. I was just ten years old at the time. We moved in the fall of the year. The country life was very different than the city but we all enjoyed it, that is until the winter of 1967-1968. The area we had moved to was also known as the snow belt region of New York. 

We had our first big snow storm which dropped about three feet of snow. Our house was set back quite a ways from the road but our garage was right next to the road. I thought that was strange until that snow storm. To get to the garage so my parents could get to work we had to shovel a path from the house to the garage, it’s about a tenth of a mile long. And as normal in the winter time the wind would blow and within a few hours the path would be gone. 

Needless to say after that first winter my father wanted to find a better way of cleaning our driveway in the winter. So in the spring of 1968 my father bought a 1949 Farmall C tractor with an eight foot plow. The first picture is of my brothers and I in the summer of 1968 and you can see the Farmall in the background. It was a tractor that was used and left out in the weather so it didn’t look too nice but it did the job of plowing snow for us ever since the winter of 1968. 

My parents have passed and I now own the Farmall. I refurbished it and to this day it still gets out in the winter. The second picture is of my wife and I taking a Fall picture with the Farmall to send to our family and friends. Needless to say but that Farmall is more than a tractor, it’s part of our family.
