1947 John Deere A
Here is a picture of my Dad’s 1947 John Deere A, I grew up with stories of when my dad was younger how he would help my grandfather farm. At the time Grandpa had two tractors, John Deere A and a John Deere G. Dad was six at the time, he was given the G to drive because it was the only tractor that he could see down the hood because the exhaust, and air intake set side by side on the hood, instead of right in a line as on the John Deere A.
Dad never got to drive the “A” because Grandpa quit farming a short time after that. Spring forward 64 years, I came across this John Deere A, and bought it for him for father’s day last year, it was a moment that I will never forget. The look of joy and surprise on his face when he saw it on the trailer, I will cherish for the rest of my life. We have since added a two bottom trip plow, which we use for “plow days”.
