1952 John Deere Model 60

The photo I submitted was taken in July of 2013 by a friend and fellow tractor puller here in Kentucky. I purchased my model 60 in October 2006 in my last semester of college at Eastern Kentucky University studying Agriculture and Horticulture.

1952 John Deere Model 60

I went to the large weekend tractor show at Renfro Valley, Kentucky with friends and had no intention of buying  a tractor. I grew up around the old 2 cylinders and always hoped one day to own one. That Saturday morning, while wandering the grounds with two of my best friends, I spotted it for sale. The older gentleman was very friendly and from Lincoln County, Kentucky. He let me test drive it (as my uncle had a 60 and I was familiar with the model) and I immediately knew I wanted the tractor. I asked what he wanted for it and I didn’t hesitate to jump on the $2,500 price tag.

Since bringing it home, it has raked hay, dragged trees for firewood, worked ground, and ran a square baler. I later threw on some 18.4 x 38″ rear tires on it, mounted a couple weight brackets and started pulling in the Northern Kentucky Tug Pullers deadweight pulling club. I didn’t win much (first and second place at Pendleton County Fair, 2nd place at Germantown Kentucky Fair, and a few 1st – 3rd places at our club pulls).

It still earns its keep around the family farm to this day!  In addition to this one, I also have a 1958 730 diesel and a 1953 4OU.
