Tractor Stories – 1949 Farmall H
My Grandfather ( My Dads Dad) bought the tractor new in downtown Edmore, Michigan, at Verplank’s they sold Pontiac cars and international trucks and tractors. We have the original bill of sale, the tractor and cultivator was $1,883.81. This was the first and only tractor he ever bought before this they farmed with horses. My Dad drove it to the farm 1 ½ miles south of town where it has been ever sense. My Grandfather died two years later so I never knew him, that is why this project was so special to my Dad and I. This is the first tractor I ever drove as a very young child, in fact when I was around 5-6 yrs old my Dad and uncle were taking off the home made front loader bucket when I got my finger between the drawbar and the bracket they bolted to it and lost the end of my finger….
