Steiner employees all wore ribbons today in support of co-worker Andrea who celebrated her 2-year anniversary of being cancer free.
Andrea was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in May 2008, at 20 years old and a junior at U of M Flint. She spent many months in and out of doctors offices with different symptoms, a lump in her arm pit, difficulty breathing and several other little symptoms. But because of her age cancer was not the first guess. After approximately 4 months, blood work and a chest xray revealed an extremely low white blood count and a 7 cm mass in the middle of her chest. She was sent straight to an oncologist and treatment began that week.
After six months of chemotherapy followed by daily radiation treatments for two weeks, on her last day of radiation, December 17th, 2008, she was declared cancer free. 🙂
During her treatment Andrea stayed in school full time, did internships and worked. "Don't ask how I did it all, I kept busy and didn't really allow myself to get down and be a 'sick' person. I ended up graduating in May 2009 with my bachelors, and here I am today! It was a long eight months but it has definitely made me a stronger and better person :)" says Andrea.
Everyone here would like to congratulate Andrea on her good health, strength, and positive attitude during her 'win' against cancer.
