Minneapolis Moline M670

03/09/2022 by ST 1 Comment

Getting ready to spread fertilizer with this beautiful 1965 Minneapolis Moline M670! It’s one of the most reliable tractors on the farm racking up approximately 30,000 hours and counting!

1967 G1000 Diesel Minneapolis Moline

11/15/2021 by ST Leave a Comment

This tractor was purchased in 1975 by Dudley Cumper for use on Cumper Dairy Farm in Marlette, Michigan. This is a 5-bottom plow tractor that was mainly used for plowing, chopping corn, and general fieldwork and has less than 6,000 hours on it.

The motor was rebuilt about 30 years ago with new seals, bearings, converter, all three heads replaced, and rear axle. It also has dual tires.

Several years ago, it was passed down to Dudley’s son, James, where it is lovingly cared for. And although it has been retired from fieldwork for many years, the anticipation of that first significant snowfall is always a good excuse to attach the back blade and do some plowing!

Pictured are James and Darlene Cumper of Marlette, MI – one of the many pictures taken in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary in October.

1948 Minneapolis Moline U Diesel

1948 Minneapolis Moline U Diesel. I found this tractor sitting in a field while traveling the Canadian countryside. I stopped and approached the owner of the tractor. I have now had it for 11 years. It still runs great and I occasionally use it on the farm.

My great grandpa purchased our Minneapolis Moline M602 tractor new in 1964. My grandpa, Anton Tyczkowski, and my dad, Joseph Tyczkowski, grew up using this tractor.

I am currently the fourth generation to have grown up with this tractor. I am proud that this tractor has never left our family. We still use this tractor on our farm almost every day for cutting hay, cultivating corn, hauling manure, and much more.

Tractor Time

10/09/2020 by ST Leave a Comment

I want to share with you a couple of pictures of completed projects done using Steiner parts.  The clock was made by my husband’s dad using old wood pallets, scrap black walnut wood, and tractor hood emblems my father-in-law ordered from Steiner representing all of my husband’s favorite tractors.  Keith did an excellent job on the clock, and we are so proud to display it in our home.

My husband, Stacy, just finished the Massey Ferguson 165 restore using Steiner parts.  As you can see, it turned out great.

Glad to have Steiner to turn to for all of our tractor part needs.

Tractor Ride Sunday

09/21/2020 by ST 1 Comment

A few years ago, recognizing that a lot of local families had old tractors that they were restoring, my uncle decided to organize a “tractor ride” as a way to get local families together to socialize, have some fun, and enjoy driving them around the country roads.

Each year, he maps out a route and contacts some of the local families to arrange permissions for the route to go through a few farms to bypass some of the more traveled blacktop roads, and to have large enough places to stop for breaks and lunch.   When “tractor ride” Sunday (usually in October) rolls around, tractors start showing up at the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church’s gravel parking lot from all over. Some are hauled but most are driven….rain or shine. Many pull hay or grain wagons to haul families with their picnic lunches. It is truly a day for the whole family.

Around noon, my uncle Teddy climbs up on his Farmall, and leads the way, with everyone else falling in line behind him. To add to the fun and to raise a few dollars to support our country church, there is an optional poker run, where you can pay a few dollars a hand and draw a card at each of the scheduled stops, with the winner receiving half the money collected and the other half going to the church to be used where the current need is.

There are all kinds of makes and models, new and old, and often several generations of family members driving them. The particular photo contains several members of my family. I took the photo from the back of the hay wagon being pulled by my husband and his Allis Chalmers WD45. The photo is of my daughter waving while driving her daddy’s Allis Chalmers D-14, with her uncle Chris behind her on his Case, her cousin on his Ford 901, and her grandpa Ron on his Case, with many other friends and relatives behind him. We never know what the weather will be like in Missouri, in October, but, that year we lucked out with cool temps, sunshine, and Fall colors! The perfect day in the country!

The 1956 445 Minneapolis Moline is owned by Roger Andersen. The mini version of the 445 was built by Roger’s father Carl Andersen in 1956 who was a mechanic for Minneapolis Moline. He built the mini tractor for his 3 sons to drive around. It is now owned by Roger and his Grandson Alex Heindel.

Life With All Our Tractors

06/17/2019 by ST 1 Comment

I was born and raised here on a 280 acre farm in West Central Wisconsin. My Great Grandfather purchased the farm in 1897. My wife Kathy and I built our home on the Northeast corner of the farm in 1977. We had Case and IH tractors and equipment when I was growing up.

In 1970 I worked on the Loren Young farm and he had Olivers, 880, Super 88 and 77, all diesels. I fell in love with those Olivers and his daughter Kathy. We were married September 1, 1973. We have four children and seven granchildren. My son Scott and I are diesel mechanics by trade, we have a large shop were we work on our old tractors, six of which are sued for antique and farm pulling.

My grandson Xander pulled his Moline U for the first time in Fountain City. He took a 1st and 2nd in his classes. His dad Scott and I were very proud of him. He did a great job for only being 8 years old, but he has lots of hours of practice at home. We had three generations pulling that night.

We have purchased parts from Steiner Tractor Parts over the years. You have an excellent and friendly staff with reasonably priced parts. I also enjoy your catalog. Here are a few photos of some of our collection.

Hickory Ridge Farm Tractor Show

01/14/2019 by ST 4 Comments

Hickory Ridge Farm History

This story is more about a place rather than a tractor. In 1980 a husband and wife decided to have an antique tractor show at their home. Just like any event the first was small but successful. The duo had a unique love and common hobby of antique farm equipment. Together Horrace and Norma Potter owned over 300 pieces! They easily could have shown their own equipment and had an amazing show, but they chose to open it up and share the hobby with other restorers.

Annual tractor show

The annual tractor show went on for 20 years in Milford, Delaware until the Potters hung up their hats in 2000. Now this is where two lives collide. In 1991 on the 10th annual Hickory Ridge Farm Show a 15 year old named Russell Geyer III started showing his own farm equipment. Russell showed equipment and participated in the tractor pull competition. Russell being a part of a farming family loved Hickory Ridge. Horrace taught him how to compete. Russell competed at Hickory Ridge for 4 years.

Purchasing and restoring antique farm equipment

After high school graduation he, like most graduates, joined the working class. In 2014 Russell purchased and restored a tractor his family bought new in 1963 which appeared in his wedding to his wife. In 2015 Russell and his wife began purchasing and restoring antique farm equipment. Again a husband and wife team up to rescue these long forgotten power houses. By 2018 the Geyer’s had 18 tractors. Nothing compared to the Potter’s but its a goal to work towards.

Hickory Ridge Tractor Show

A new legacy

After Norma Davis Potter passed away in 2017 the farm was prepared for a new legacy and going up for sale. Friends of the family connected Russell with the Davis/Potter family and in October 2018 Mr. Geyer purchased Hickory Ridge. Vendors, tractors, and exhaust had not filled the show grounds in 20 years. Children had not ran through the property eating hot dogs. People from surrounding states had not taken in Hickory Ridge’s beauty. Russell remembers the smells, the roar of a tractor pulling a load down the track, the American flag whipping in the wind. Russell and his wife vowed to the family the show would come back to Hickory Ridge.

Hickory Ridge Antique Tractor Club

On November 3rd 2018 the first Hickory Ridge Antique Tractor Club held its meeting. Bylaws and rules were formed, positions were filled, and a sense of pride fell over the 5 members and even 2 junior members in attendance. The club is working hard to have the second Annual Hickory Ridge Antique Tractor Show in August 2019. We are looking for more members, including youth members, more vendors, and more sponsors. The family and club want the show to be just like it was. It was a place where history came alive, festivities were affordable, and memories could be made. Hickory Ridge is back and ready to get the show started!

Restored MM UTI

Restored Tractor

Restored Minneapolis Moline UTI

Originally his dad’s tractor, bought off the line in 1946. Bob’s dad traded it in 1958 for a new tractor.

In 2014 Bob’s bulk fuel man found the tractor about 60 miles from their homestead in South Dakota. Bob went and pulled it from the field, and restored it back to original.

This picture was taken in 2017 completely restored with many STP parts.

After the Restoration

The South Central Threshing Bee located at Braddock, North Dakota is featuring my dad’s once owned Minneapolis Moline UTI tractor in honor of the Minneapolis Moline farm equipment manufacturer this year.  This annual event is scheduled the first weekend after Labor Day.  The attendants paid, right to entry badge will serve as a two day pass to this threshing event which is featuring this unique restored MM-UTI’s picture on the badge.

The SOUTH DAKOTA magazine printed and published at Yankton, South Dakota under the editor-ownership of Bernie Hunoff, is including tractor pictures and a story about the history and accomplishments of this MM-UTI tractor.

“Government Contract, Glen Canyon
Dam and a Golf Course”

Featured Photo

March’s featured photo was submitted by Judy Kitson. “This tractor is a 1951 UB Minneapolis Moline Industrial version, as can be seen by the dual tires and shifter for forward and reverse. It was made on a US government contract and still has the original government plates. The tractor was used by the bureau in building the Glen Canyon Dam that created Lake Powell. After the dam was built the tractor was purchased by the city of Page, Arizona and used on their golf course. When they finally parked it, it was picked up by Eugene Tucker at the city auction. He has since used it in the Page, Arizona annual tractor pulls in October. He and the tractor can be seen pulling on our website www.PageTractorClub.com in our cover photo. Eugene is one of the founders and the President of the Page Antique Tractor & Machinery Club – EDGE&TA br. 217.”
