How to determine width / backspacing on a rim

07/31/2008 by ST Leave a Comment

To determine backspacing, lay the rim flat on the ground with the back of the wheel facing up. Next, lay a straightedge across rim and measure the distance from the back side of mounting surface to the straightedge.

To determine width of rim measure on the inside (bead to bead) not outside to outside.

What is the difference between cutout & voltage regulator on International / Farmall?

07/18/2008 by ST Leave a Comment

Farmall tractors could be equipped with either a voltage regulator or a ‘cutout’. They look very similar, the difference is the voltage regulator will have 3 terminals on 1 side & 1 terminal either on the other side or under the regulator. It also uses a 3 position light switch. Cub mounts below generator on governor housing others mounted on back of light switch box or rear fuel tank support. Cutout will have 2 terminals on 1 side and 1 terminal on other, uses 4 position light switch, gas tractors mounted on generator DSL tractors mounted on left radiator support.

How do I know if my International Farmall tractor is a Super or not?

07/17/2008 by ST Leave a Comment

The easiest way to tell on most rowcrops besides looking at the serial number tag is to look at the outer brake covers, supers have cast iron outer covers where non supers (unless equipped with aftermarket disc brakes) have sheet metal covers.

How do I find out what year my International tractor is?

06/20/2008 by ST 3 Comments

If the serial number tag is missing you can estimate the year by when the castings were made. The bigger castings such as transmission, rearend, clutch housings, rear wheel castings, front support casting, etc will have a raised letter barcode.
Example: 12-31-‘S’ = 1950 year Barcodes started with A = 1931, B = 1932 etc. in alphabetical order to Z = 1954 (The letter V was left out on purpose) 1955 then started with ‘A’ again thru 1958 = D after that many letters were dropped from the system making it difficult to verify the year.
