1961 Allis Chalmers Series II D-17 and Mop

This was our week-old Ameraucana chick named Mop on the nose cowl of our Allis Chalmers D-17. She was, and still is one of our favorites with a sweet, fun personality.

The tractor is a 1961 Series II D-17 with an AC trip loader on the front. I picked the tractor up from an older gentleman in Iowa to use in snowstorms and for other chores around our place after my Ford 8N couldn’t quite deal with some of the big snow drifts and a few months later I bought the loader from a collector in Eastern Nebraska.

In addition to lots of fluid changes, “new” rear wheels, and new paint on the wheels, loader, and grille, the old girl runs much smoother thanks to bearings, gaskets, kits, and gauges from Steiner. Overall, my best days are days spent working on my tractors or enjoying the hours that I’ve put into them and putting them to work plowing, discing, mowing, or just working in the driveway clearing snow or grading rock.

As for Mop, she’s living her best life out in the coop!
