Tractor Stories – Ford 7000

After

My name Is Chris Koerner and I have attached a few photos of a tractor that I would love to see on one of your covers someday. I’m from the small town of Pike, NY. The tractor is a 1975 Ford 7000 Row Crop tractor. My grandfather bought the tractor new to replace a 5000 they had. In 1983 after roughly 12,000 hours, The tractor developed pinholes in the cylinder block and began consuming anti-freeze.  My Father and uncle swapped the engine and updated it with a Ford 268 diesel instead of the 256 it previously had. The tractor recently has received a lot of attention because I restored it. Beginning this past January, I brought the tractor to SUNY Morrisville where I overhauled the engine, PTO clutches, brakes, and put new bearings in the rear end of the tractor. I also painted the tractor at our farm in Western NY over the summer so that my brother could drive it in the parade at our local fair. The 7000 is estimated to have 25,000 hours on it now. It was used as the main workhorse for several years and is used now for unloading wagons and light work. I have been extremely proud to restore this tractor for my father, and I only wish my grandfather could see the tractor today.
