Saved from the back of the barn

This is a 1973 General Electric Elek-Trak this one was bought second or third hand from a newspaper in the 1980s. It was used for at most 7 years before being put in the way back corner of my grandpa’s barn. It sat back there up until sometime in 2023 when we went digging back there to retrieve it. My grandpa said I could have it if I could make one good working Toro zipper out of the two he had. So we loaded up the Elec-Trak up on the trailer with the mower and snow blower that came with it along with a small rototiller, and the two zippers.

We got back home after a three hour drive and tore into it. First test was to see if it moves, so we put the battery out of our 71 Chevelle, the barns radio battery and one other battery in it and it moved. Then we went down to the local Menard’s and got three 12 volt FVP marine battery’s. Now, three years later it is very nice for going up and down the driveway to get the mail and since we do maple syrup every year it is good for going around and getting the sap from the trees. That is how one vary rare lawn mower from the 1970s was saved from the back of a barn
