Growing up Allis Chalmers

My wife Harriet and I with My Grandfathers 1957 Allis Chalmers WD45. By the serial number I believe it was built in March or April before I was born that year in July.

I remember Grandpa traded his Allis Chalmers WD to upgrade to the Allis Chalmers WD45 when I was in grade school. He had no GPS or auto steer, but he could plant the straightest rows with it and the old 4-row John Deere 494A planter.

The first tractor I ever drove was an Allis Chalmers D17 Diesel, I haven’t found the right one yet. I grew up on an Allis Chalmers 180. The picture above is with my 1976 Allis Chalmers 185, that I plant with, and our 1990 Case 1640 Combine.
