Carburetor Repair Tips

10/17/2011 by ST 1 Comment

Questions
Our #1 search term on our site is “Zenith Carburetor”, #2 is “Marvel Schebler Carburetor”.  Steiner Tractor Parts sells 263 various carburetor parts including individual carburetor components like the needle and seat, or throttle shaft, to economy, basic and complete carburetor repair kits. We even sell a few complete carburetors.  Finding exactly what you are looking for can be overwhelming, so here are a few tips for how to find parts for your carburetor.

     1)    When searching on our site, try searching for just your carburetor manufacturer number. This     will bring up all of the known components that we sell for your carburetor.
     2)    If you aren’t sure how to find your carburetor manufacturer number, please check out our helpful carburetor diagram. We also are now offering diagrams specific to your manufacturer.
          a.    Carter Carburetor Diagram
          b.    Farmall Carburetor Diagram
          c.    Holley Carburetor Diagram
          d.    Marvel Schebler Carburetor Diagram
          e.    Zenith Bendix Carburetor Diagram
     3)    If you have a TSX Series Carburetor, check out this repair document from Marvel Schebler.
     4)    If you are looking for a float, on the product detail page, or on the how to page, look for a float dimension diagram.  You can compare our dimensions against those of your original float. Here is an example document for the ABC361 Carburetor Float. We have similar information on all of our carb floats.
     5)    If you are looking for hard to find parts for a Carter Carburetor, check out our gasket interchange documents:
          a.    Carter Gasket Alternate (UT2223S, UT2402S, UT2709S & US2418S w/ Alum Body)
          b.    Carter Gasket Alternate (UT997S)
          c.    Carter Gasket Alternate (UT2612S & UT2257S)
     6)    If you can’t find what you are looking for, and you have a carburetor manufacturer number, then send an email to our technical department and we’ll see if we can locate a kit, or interchange your carb number to one of our existing kits.

Wiring Harness Diagrams

Questions We sell a number of wiring harnesses and we’ve been adding some helpful diagrams to our site to assist you with installing the kits. If you’ve recently purchased a wiring harness from us, or if you are thinking about it, please check out our wiring harness diagrams now available.

Also, keep in mind when purchasing wiring harnesses, that it is important to read the full description.  Sometimes, there are different kits for the same tractor based on the electrical setup (location of voltage regulator, etc).  You can avoid costly FDS1703 mis-orders by reading the full product descriptions on our site and comparing against your serial number and electrical setup.  Most harnesses are designed for the factory charging system. If your tractor was originally 6 volt and you have converted to 12 volt, the wires for the charging system will have to be modified.

Tractor Stories – Farmall Super A

09/09/2011 by ST Leave a Comment

Before

When I was 5 years old, my parents moved to a farm that had a Farmall Super A tractor.  When I was old enough to reach the pedals, my father taught me how to operate the tractor.  I enjoyed plowing with the A-151 disc plow, cultavating the corn, cutting the hayfields, raking the hay.  The other workings of the farm activities my father did himself with the Super A.  He planted the corn, baled and hauled the hay in a converted horse drawn wagon.

I started looking for a Super A to own about 15 years ago.  It was funny at the number of tractors I looked at that were advertised as Super A's but when I went to look at them, they were either not Super A's or were converted A's with hydraulics.  About 3 years ago, a local free paper had a Super A listed in it.  I had about given up finding one but my wife told me I had better look at it because if I didn't, that would be the one.  I made an appointment to look at the advertised Super A and when I got there, the lady walked me behind the house to the machine shed where it was parked and my mind went "YEAH, FINALLY!!!"  There was a real Super A.  The lady said other attachments went with the tractor but all I was hearing was "Blah, blah, blah" as the only interest I had was in the tractor at that moment.  I bought the tractor and brought it and the attachments home that evening.

The first photo I enclosed is the condition the Super A was in when I got it home that late August day.  I During was like a kid in a candy store.  I wanted to ride it and find out all the flaws it had.  My son talked with me and we decided we would fix all the problems and restore it.  I found Steiner Tractor on the web and started ordering parts.  My son helped with the repairs.  When we had the tractor in shape, we started making plans to repaint it.  The second photo shows the tractor in the mode of cleaning the 47 years of field dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc from it.  As the photo shows, we removed all the sheet metal, I sand blasted, and my son painted it and the tractor.  The final photo shows the finished product.  I took the tractor to the Red Power Roundup in Columbia, Missouri,  in June 2008.

After Thanks go to my wife and daughter-in-law for letting me and my son spend all that time restoring the tractor.  My hats off to my son for the excellent job he did in painting the tractor and helping me fix the mechanical issues the tractor had.  I also know my Dad and Mom are looking down and smiling.
