New Colors For a New Look
The new colors give a fresh new look and everyone here at Steiner Tractor Parts is enjoying the lift. Most of the work was done during working hours and the Steiner staff and painters worked around each other. The process took approximately a week and nobody missed a beat getting your restoration quality tractor parts out to you. Feel free to stop by and see our new colors if you are in the Lennon (MI) area. We always enjoy meeting our customers.
How do I polarize a generator?
Before starting the engine, momentarily touch one end of a piece of wire to regulator terminal marked ‘arm’ or ‘gen’ and the other end to terminal marked ‘bat’. A spark will occur when wire is removed this is natural. DO NOT TOUCH ‘fld’ terminal, regulator will instantly be ruined!
How do I test a fuel gauge?
Simply hook positive test lead to one side and negative test lead to the other, if the gauge needle moves it is good. Sometimes if a fuel gauge isn’t working it can have a bad ground, you can run an extra ground wire from gauge to sending unit.
Practice Good Receiving Habits
Steiner Tractor Parts, Inc. is committed to providing top notch service as well as quality restoration tractor parts, but sometimes we need your help to provide the best, most efficient service. We know that the average customer does not receive packages regularly and freight shipments rarely if ever. We thought we’d share some best practices when receiving your shipment so if an issue occurs we can handle the problem efficiently.
- If possible check package for outside damage before driver leaves. If damaged make sure driver notes the damage.
- Check outside of box for the packing slip, note any back ordered items on the packing slip.
- Open package carefully. Do not put knife all the way in the box as you can slice decals, cut seat covers and gouge emblems.
- Remove items and check off on the packing slip.
- Open items like headlights, lenses and check that they haven’t cracked during transit.
- Make sure to check inside of each box for additional items like knobs and boots stuffed into battery boxes.
- Look at items that are sold as left and right and make sure you have both sides.
- If all is okay, file the packing slip with your other tractor related documents.
If there is any problem, damage, defect or missing or incorrect product shipped contact us right away by phone 1-800-234-3280 or email sales@steinertractor.com The sooner we deal with any problem, the easier it will be.
LTL Freight Shipments
- Someone must be home to accept the shipment.
- The driver will present several documents. Do not sign before unloading.
- After you unload the shipment, look at what you’ve received. Are there any dents or signs of damage? Is the shrink wrap torn or partially removed? Are the pieces still securely banded?
- Now, look at the documents the driver gave you it should say somewhere on the document "Said to contain ____ pieces" or "____ Pieces" "STC _____ pcs". Make sure you have that number of pieces. The skid / pallet does not count as a piece.
- If all is in order and you have all pieces sign the document. If anything is out of the ordinary, damaged, possibly damaged or missing. Show the driver make a note on his document and sign. If possible, get him to sign also.
- Now, find the packing slip and proceed as above form step 2.
With your help we will be able to navigate through any issues that may arise with ease and you will be looking forward to another load of top quality restoration parts from Steiner Tractor Parts.
What weight oil should I use in my gas tractor engine?
If it has not been rebuilt recently use a straight 30 weight non-detergent, if it has been rebuilt recently you can use a detergent type oil.
How to Remove a Steering Wheel
How to pull a steering wheel off on some tractors with exposed steering wheel spokes. Take the nut off, soak the center hub (with penetrating oil) where the steering shaft goes thru. Tap the spoke of the steering wheel and if you are lucky it will start to loosen. If it doesn’t move you can use a torch (DO NOT — USE if it is close to your gas tank) heat the center hub up and tap the spoke of the steering wheel. On other applications with covered spoke steering wheels sometimes the center hub is threaded so you can use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. Otherwise you can hit the covered spokes with a hammer to break the outer covering and use a 3-jaw puller to pull the steering wheel. On tractors that have steering wheels held by a pin thru the hub use a punch to try to drive the pin out, if it won’t move you may have to drill the pin out, then tap the hub of the steering wheel to remove it.
How do I switch from positive to negative ground?
Reverse wires on coil, reverse amp gauge wires, reverse battery cables, and if you are still using a generator with regulator you will need to repolarize the regulator. If tractor is equipped with a fuel gauge you will have to reverse the wires on it.
How do I polarize a generator? Before starting the engine, momentarily touch one end of a piece of wire to regulator terminal marked 'arm' or 'gen' and the other end to terminal marked 'bat'. A spark will occur when wire is removed this is natural. DO NOT TOUCH 'fld' terminal, regulator will instantly be ruined.

What is a blog and how does it work?
If you are new to blogging and would like a little tutorial on what this is all about read on.
A blog is a website in which items are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. The term blog is a shortened form of weblog or web log. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called “blogging”. Individual articles on a blog are called “blog posts,” “posts” or “entries”. A person who posts these entries is called a “blogger”. A blog comprises text, hypertext, images, and links (to other web pages and other files). Blogs use a conversational style of documentation. Often blogs focus on a particular “area of interest”, such as Restoration or Antique Tractor Parts or questions regarding your tractor.
What options are available for you to use on this blog?
What is a RSS feed?
A feed, also known as RSS feed is frequently updated content published by a website.
How does a feed differ from a website?
A feed can have the same content as a webpage, but it’s often formatted differently. When you subscribe, your web browser automatically checks the website and downloads new content so you can see what is new since you last visited the feed. You can subscribe to the whole site by clicking on the icon on the toolbar just above your open window while viewing the site.
Does it cost anything to view the Steiner Tractor Parts feed?
No, there is no charge to view our feeds and you may make money by the savings you can make when purchasing our restoration quality parts.
How can I view my feeds once I have subscribed?
To view your feeds go to your Favorites Center tab and along the top you will have the choice of favorites, history and feeds select feeds. You will then have a list of feeds you have subscribed to, simply click on the one you would like to view and you will see a list of the most current updates to our site.
What is a Permalink?
Permalink is short for “permanent link”. It is a link that readers can use to bookmark the current blog post. This is important, as most blogs change regularly, and without a permanent link, the posts would be impossible to find later.
What is Trackback?
Trackback is a tool to allow you to notify other blog authors of your blog posts. Most bloggers use it to comment on a blog post as an entry on their site, rather than as comments on the other blog. It’s similar to linking to a permalink (permanent link) but it adds the functionality where you actually tell the original blogger that you’ve linked to them. This is called “sending a ping”.
Not John Deere Green or Massey Red
We are putting on the paint. Color test patterns covered many walls in our offices and everyone was putting their votes in but now the decision has been made and the paint is going up.
We are getting a color face lift and putting those white (or sort of) walls behind us and we are going with some bold color. The purple, a favorite of Dawns (our office manager) is being used on some of the accent walls and the rest of the walls are going to be peach. So the work begins with painters working around employees and even some stray tractor parts that are in the development phase and taking up residence around the office. We are getting things spruced up for the upcoming Steiner Tractor Parts Customer Appreciation Day and Craft Show. We are looking forward to the show and expecting a great turn out. Check back with us and you can see the after pictures of the color overhaul.
